The Common Envelope Evolution Outcome—A Case Study on Hot Subdwarf B Stars

چکیده
Common envelope evolution (CEE) physics plays a fundamental role in the formation of binary systems, such as mergering stellar gravitational wave sources, pulsar binaries and type Ia supernovae. A precisely constrained CEE has become more important age large surveys detectors. We use an adiabatic mass loss model to explore how total energy donor changes function remnant mass. This provides self-consistent way calculate binding donor. For comparison, we also through integrating from core surface. The outcome is by conservation at point which both component's radii shrink back within their Roche lobes. apply our results 142 hot subdwarf binaries. shorter orbital period sdBs, highly consistent. longer sdBs samples, can differ up factor 2. CE efficiency parameter $\beta_\mathrm{CE}$ becomes smaller than $\alpha_\mathrm{CE}$ for final $\log_{10} P_{\mathrm{orb}}/\mathrm{d} > -0.5$. find ratios q$ parameters \alpha_{\mathrm{CE}}$ \beta_{\mathrm{CE}}$ linearly correlate similarly De Marco et al. Hot subdwarf stars in close-up view*
The origin of hot subdwarf B stars (sdBs) is still unclear. About half of the known sdBs are in close binary systems for which common envelope ejection is the most likely formation channel. Little is known about this dynamic phase of binary evolution. Since most of the known sdB systems are single-lined spectroscopic binaries, it is difficult to derive masses and unravel the companions’ nature,...

We study the merging of massive stars inside a common envelope for binary systems consisting of a red supergiant with a mass of 15 – 20M⊙ and a main-sequence companion of 1 – 5M⊙. We are particularly interested in the stage when the secondary, having overfilled its Roche lobe inside the common envelope, starts to transfer mass to the core of the primary at a very high mass-transfer rate and the...
متن کاملMass loss predictions for Subdwarf B stars
We present the results of Monte Carlo mass-loss computations for hot low-mass stars, specifically for Subdwarf B (SdB) stars. It is shown that the massloss rates on the Horizontal Branch (HB) computed from radiative line-driven wind models are not high enough to create SdB stars. We argue, however, that mass loss plays a role in the chemical abundance patterns observed both in field SdB stars, ...
متن کاملLTE or NLTE for the analysis of hot white dwarf and subdwarf B stars?
We evaluate the influence of NLTE effects on hydrogen and helium lines of high gravity stars. This investigation covers the classes of hydrogen-rich DA and DAO white dwarfs and helium-rich DO white dwarfs. Furthermore, model atmospheres of hydrogen-rich subdwarf B (sdB) stars are investigated. Implications for model atmosphere analyses of such stars are discussed. Pure hydrogen atmospheres of D...
